Type Locality and Naming

Western Nghe An Province. Stratotype is at Nam Can Commune, Ky Son District, Nghe An Province.


Lithology and Thickness

Stratotype (300 m thick) consists of (1) Limestone interbedded with thin-bedded cherty shale; 50 m thick, containing Frasnian-age Conodonts Palmatolepis hassi, Icriodus sp. Ancryodella cf. nodosa, Ozarodina sp., Polygnatus sp. (2) Grey, thin-bedded limestone interbedded with banded clayey limestone and cherty shale; 70 m thick. (3) Black medium-bedded clayey limestone 50 m thick, containing the Early Carboniferous rugose ("coral") Actinophrentis sp. (4) Black-grey shale, clayey limestone, cherty shale; 130 m thick, containing the foram Eotuberitina reitlingerae.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies conformably on the Nam Can Fm.

Upper contact

Unconformably below the La Khe Fm.

Regional extent

Restricted to the west of Nghe An Province.
